Every year, Firewise Communities
are required to conduct a Firewise Day. As the
Firewise program is intended to teach Wildland Urban
Interface fire safety, these programs are almost
always conducted in conjunction with the local fire
department. This represents WFFWA's
involvement in one such event.
We met at Penn Forest Twp. Vol.
Fire Co. #1, where Smokey got ready and boarded one
of their engines, for the short trip to the event.
Upon arrival at the event, Smokey walked around,
meeting and greeting adults and children alike.
Smokey returned to Penn Forest's engine where he
waited a time while some people left the event and
others arrived. He then made a second visit to
the event.
